Greek Food Fair

Event Series Event Series (See All)

May 31 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

The 44th Annual Greek Food Fair is the perfect way to kick off the summer this year! Since 1978, this beloved Des Moines tradition has been known for warm hospitality, delicious food, and joyous entertainment. You won’t want to miss the family-friendly party at the corner of 35th and Cottage Grove the first weekend of June! The festivities begin with a sure crowd-pleaser—a Friday night special—Saganaki! Flaming cheese, anyone? This spectacular dish is a cultural favorite, and you will surely hear the happy cheer of “Opa!” at each flame. While music plays, refreshments flow, and grills sizzle, the Greek Isles come alive at this labor of love hosted and run by the members of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church! All the delicious tastes that Des Moines-area residents have come to adore will be featured throughout the weekend—from Spanakopita to the ever-popular Gyro. And of course, our wonderful Serbian neighbors will return with a selection of traditional dishes, making this a true international celebration. Greek music and dancers will entertain you with traditional dancing performances and encourage you to join in. Visitors will also be able to take a tour of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George, where you can see the truly unique, historic beauty of the interior and its Icons. Admission is FREE, most al-la carte items are under $10, and for your convenience, purchases are cashless this year. Tell your family members, friends, neighbors, and co- workers. Let us do the cooking so you can eat, dance, and then relax and do it all over again! So, mark your calendars, and we will see you soon! Friday, May 31, 5pm to 9pm Saturday, June 1, 11am to 8pm Sunday, June 2, 11am to 2pm
