The loss hits you hard and your body sinks like lead. Every step feels like walking through a blizzard with waist-deep snow and frigid wind working hard to steal your breath. Life after tragedy is an uphill battle. Suddenly your whole world feels as if it’s shifted and spun like a top. Your reality is all twisted and turned and you don’t know how you can ever sort it out.
TobyMac’s new song “Heaven On My Mind” featuring Forrest Frank is dedicated to his rediscovery of a new life after being hit with the gut-wrenching loss of his son.
Here’s TobyMac on the story behind his song:
“I was working through some hard things… Life after losing my son, Truett. I think ‘Heaven On My Mind’ was me figuring out how to relate to God again. When I started walking again I noticed that I just literally had heaven on my mind a little more than I’ve ever had it before.
And I enjoy life on this earth. One of the last lines of this song is, ‘Life ain’t bad down here, but I got heaven on my mind’… Just this journey of going from total ashes, to crawling, to walking, to standing up strong. That kind of is what ‘Heaven On My Mind’ is.”
