Heartland SwingOut: A weekend of movement, music, and community
Dance the weekend away with Heartland Swing, October 10-11
This two-day celebration brings dancers from all over the Midwest together for an unforgettable weekend of classes, social dances, and live performances. Whether you are brand new to Lindy Hop or a seasoned dancer, Heartland SwingOut offers something for everyone.
Kick off the weekend Friday evening with a social dance at Des Moines Ballroom (1925 High Street, Des Moines) featuring live music from Junction Jazz Society. An introductory swing lesson starting at 7:15 pm will get beginners ready to join the floor before the band takes the stage.
On Saturday, classes at Chandelier DSM (413 Euclid Avenue, Des Moines) will be offered in two tracks:
Level 1 introduces the fundamentals of Lindy Hop, Level 2 explores more advanced techniques in connection, rhythm, and musicality.
The evening continues with a dance to the always crowd-pleasing NOLA Jazz Band from 8:00-11:00 pm. Midway through the night, don’t miss the Mix-n-Match competition, a fast-paced contest where dancers are paired at random to show off their skills, creativity, and musicality. It’s always a highlight, whether you are competing or cheering from the sidelines! The night doesn’t stop there, join us afterward for a late-night jam at Star Bar (2811 Ingersoll Avenue, Des Moines).
Tickets are on sale now! Weekend passes are $60 for Level 1 or $90 for Level 2, both including workshops and evening dances. Dance-only passes will be available at the door.
